This post turned out really long.... but it has been just about a year since I left to visit Australia with my (now) fiance and my family. Half of my family lives in Western Australia and we try to go out to visit them every few years. Here are just a few pictures from the trip, starting with a beautiful day on the beach at Rottnest Island.
Then we drove south of Perth for more beautiful beaches.
Brent, my brother, and I went to Bali for a few days...
Then Brent and my family left and I stayed for a few months. While I was there I did a little traveling to Queensland where I woke up way too early to take an indescribably beautiful hot air balloon ride, saw the Great Barrier Reef and met a very friendly and very large fish named Nigel, took a shameful amount of selfies in the rainforest, encountered massive spiders in a public restroom, slid down a waterfall, and got attacked by a leech to name just a few things
My cousin and I drove east of Perth to the mining town of Kalgoorlie, where my great grandparents used to live. Along the way we took a detour to see the tiny farming town my grandma grew up in. We also went to a ghost town and saw some amazing statues in a dry lake bed in the middle of nowhere.
It was all amazing, and I met some very cool people and did some very cool things. But I have to say my favorite moments were the quiet ones - the ones when I was playing Scrabble with my grandma or drinking tea and watching TV with my cousins or just sitting outside on the patio with everyone after dinner and talking about our days.
